Wellbeing Support

At Brynmawr Foundation School, the wellbeing and safeguarding of our pupils is our top priority and is central to everything we do. Every member of staff is committed to ensuring that our learners feel safe, supported, and valued. A happy and healthy pupil is better able to concentrate, engage in learning, and achieve their full potential.
We value every individual equally and foster a culture where young people are included, listened to, and respected. We promote pupil welfare by maintaining a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment.
Our dedicated Wellbeing Provision, led by our Wellbeing lead, Mrs Preece, is available to welcome pupils whenever they need support. This space provides a calm and welcoming environment where students can take time to pause, reflect, and recharge during the school day. The Wellbeing provision room is designed to promote positive mental health, offering a quiet retreat away from the demands of a busy school environment. By providing this facility, we demonstrate our commitment to wellbeing, ensuring that our students feel valued, supported, and able to maintain a healthy balance.
We provide an extensive range of wellbeing services to complement our strong pastoral care. These include ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant), Talk about, LGBTQ+ support groups, In reach groups and Youth Service Wellbeing groups and access to a dedicated school counsellor. Support is personalised to each pupil, with the type and duration carefully adapted to meet individual needs—ensuring every student receives the right help at the right time.
Our comprehensive Personal and Social Education (PSE) programme equips pupils with the knowledge and understanding of health and wellbeing, enabling them to make informed choices and develop the skills to support themselves and others.
Wellbeing plays a central role in a pupil’s academic success, personal development, and social growth. In secondary school, students face new challenges, including increased academic demands, social pressures, and the transition to greater independence. Supporting wellbeing helps students to navigate these challenges confidently and positively.
