Supporting Success Through Flexible and Inclusive Qualifications

At our school, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil has access to a pathway that enables them to achieve success and develop the skills needed for their future. Our Vocational Pathways Programme provides pupils with the opportunity to gain a range of valuable qualifications alongside their GCSE studies.

These qualifications are designed to develop practical skills, personal confidence and real-world understanding, while also carrying GCSE-equivalent value. The pathway offers pupils the chance to achieve recognised qualifications through a combination of coursework, practical activities and portfolio-based assessment, reducing reliance on external examinations.

Every pupil's vocational pathway is tailored to their individual needs, strengths and aspirations, ensuring they have access to a broad and balanced programme of study.

Current Qualifications Offered

Agored Cymru: Wales, Europe and the World

This qualification helps pupils develop their understanding of local, national and global issues. Learners explore topics linked to Wales, Europe and the wider world, developing awareness of different cultures, communities and international events. The qualification encourages pupils to become informed and responsible citizens with a broader understanding of the world around them.

NCFE Equality and Diversity

This qualification promotes understanding, respect and inclusion. Pupils learn about the importance of treating others fairly, valuing diversity and challenging discrimination. The course develops important personal, social and workplace skills that help young people thrive in modern society.

Agored Cymru: Work Related Education

This qualification helps pupils prepare for life beyond school by developing key employability skills and an understanding of the workplace. Pupils explore areas such as communication, teamwork, career planning, enterprise and workplace expectations, helping them make informed decisions about their future education, training and employment.

Agored Cymru: Financial Literacy (Proposed for Introduction)

Subject to final approval from the awarding body, we hope to introduce a Financial Literacy qualification. This course will focus on practical life skills including budgeting, saving, banking, managing money, understanding payslips and making informed financial decisions. These skills will support pupils throughout adult life and help prepare them for financial independence.

For some pupils, the vocational pathway may also include additional mathematics support where mathematical skills overlap with financial literacy content.

Looking Ahead: Vocational Pathways from September 2027

From September 2027, pupils entering Year 10 will have access to an enhanced vocational pathway offering a wider range of Vocational Certificates of Secondary Education (VCSEs) alongside qualifications that develop essential life skills and prepare learners for adulthood, further education and employment.

The new pathway will provide meaningful, engaging and relevant learning opportunities that recognise a broad range of strengths and talents. VCSE qualifications will allow pupils to develop practical knowledge and skills while gaining recognised qualifications that contribute to their overall achievement profile.

We recognise that every learner has different needs and starting points. Pupils who are unable to access VCSE qualifications will have the opportunity to complete a range of Foundation and Entry Level qualifications. These courses will provide valuable accreditation, celebrate individual progress and ensure that all learners can experience success through qualifications appropriate to their abilities and aspirations.

Further information about the September 2027 vocational offer will be shared with pupils, parents and carers of the relevant cohort ahead of the September 2027 rollout.
